Parker Farm
The year was 1820 when James McClurg and his wife purchased the 150 acre tract on a patent from Pres. Monroe. This land was some of the first lands surveyed known as the Seven Ranges after the Revolutionary War. According to records , it appears he , his wife , 9 children and another family member were living on the farm during Ohio's 1820 Census. Some years before that my Great ...... Grandfather Bernard Boatman of Bucks County Pa settled the land he called his "Plantation" in his last will & testament which adjoined the land of the McClurgs. He served under Washington during the Revolutionary War .
It was 1836 when James and his wife sold the farm to a William Hasson and wife who continued sheep farming until his death in 1874. They were considered prominent pioneers to the area and made contributions to the first church established in the town, The Calvanistic Meeting House.
The property at this point in time was purchased by a prominent man in the Coal Industry.
His name was James Mullins and was co -owner of what was known as The State Line Coal Company". It is believed the house was rented, the barns were used to house the mules and the thick layers of coal were harvested. Shortly thereafter during the pottery boom, the farm held a great quantity of clay which was used for the company NATCO and local potteries.
Not until 1919 was the farmstead to see it's original purpose once again. It was then that Charles and Pearl Parker purchased and starting the beginnings of "Parker Dairy" The farm and the Dairy operation were taken over by their son Kenneth in 1947 and thereafter by his son Donald who carried on the dairy operation until 1982.
The farm is still operated by our family today.
I hope to share this historic picturesque place and continue tradition , family and add a new page to it's rich history.
